Recycling Services

Guidance on recycling services and waste reduction efforts that support a cleaner, more sustainable White Township.

White Township Recycling

Curbside Collection

In 1990, White Township and Indiana Borough, in partnership with the Indiana County Solid Waste Authority, implemented a curbside recycling collection program as required by law.

Billing: Recycling is billed quarterly by White Township. Funds are used exclusively for curbside collection and recycling center operations, with revenue from material sales helping to offset costs.

Recycling Containers: Each residence in White Township is assigned a 14-gallon maroon recycling container and a 22-gallon blue container, both encoded with serial numbers.

  • Containers are permanently assigned to the address and must remain with the dwelling when ownership or occupancy changes.
  • Newly constructed homes receive a set of bins at no cost.
  • Lost or damaged bins can be replaced for $15.00 by contacting the White Township Office.

Containers must be placed curbside by 7:30 am on the designated collection day (see Days of Recycling Collection image).

All Township residents are required by law to recycle materials listed below, either through curbside service or by using the Recycling Center’s drop-off program.

All commercial establishments in White Township are required to recycle and/or provide documentation of recycled products (see Township Code, Chapter 257, for details).

Spring Yard Waste Collection

White Township will be conducting a spring yard waste collection from Monday, May 18 to Friday, May 22, 2026. Collection begins at 7 a.m. each day.

Yard waste, including tree limbs, twigs, and branches that are no more than 5 inches in diameter, less than 8 feet in length, or under 50 pounds in weight, as well as ordinary shrubbery trimmings, are acceptable for collection. These items should be placed in corrugated cardboard boxes or biodegradable paper bags. (Plastic bags will not be picked up.)

To help the workers run a safe and efficient yard waste collection, residents are urged to place their items behind the curb or the ditch line along each street or road. The piles of waste mustn’t obstruct vehicular or pedestrian traffic or impede drainage. Please remember: White Township workers will not enter private property to retrieve any materials.

The township will not pick up thorny shrubs or grass clippings.

Items weighing more than 50 pounds and large amounts of vegetation cut in lot-clearing operations will not be accepted and will be left in place. Landowners who have large amounts of vegetation cut in lot-clearing operations should contact the township office to make special arrangements.

Residents may choose to deliver yard waste to the Indiana County Solid Waste Authority Recycling Center, 1715 Rte 119 S, Homer City, Pa.
